CLINTON, Ind. — The West Central Indiana Partnership (WCIP) joined community leaders, elected officials, friends and family to posthumously honor longtime Clinton Mayor Jack Gilfoy with the Distinguished Hoosier Award, one of Indiana’s highest civilian honors. The award, presented on behalf of Indiana Governor Mike Braun and at the request of Senator Spencer Deery, recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the state and its people. Mayor Gilfoy’s dedication to his community, public service and small business leadership made him a natural and deserving recipient. “Jack was more than just a mayor. He was a true public servant and a friend to so many,” said Josh Alsip, Vice President of Regional Engagement for the WCIP. “His love for Clinton and its people was evident in everything he did.” Mayor Gilfoy served the City of Clinton as mayor from 2012 until his passing in 2025. He previously served on the Board of Works and Safety and owned and operated Model Cleaners, a local business his grandfather founded in 1939. Known for his humor, humility and unwavering commitment to his hometown, Mayor Gilfoy left a lasting legacy on the community. The event, held in Clinton, brought together a host of regional leaders, city officials, county commissioners and state senators, all reflecting on the impact Gilfoy made on West Central Indiana. Adding to the recognition, Clinton Mayor John Moore announced that the community center on Main Street will be renamed the Jack Gilfoy Jr. Community Center, a lasting tribute to his decades of dedication and service. “Jack Gilfoy helped shape Clinton into the proud and welcoming community it is today,” Alsip added. “It’s fitting that his legacy will now be cemented both in state recognition and in the very fabric of the town he loved.”

My name is Audrey Jackman. I am going to be a senior at Indiana State University, majoring in marketing. I am the Marketing & Events Intern for the West Central Indiana Partnership this summer. I am looking forward to this experience and the connections I can make throughout the region. I am from Brazil, Indiana, and have an interest in staying close to home. I am excited to work for an organization that values the community and encourages local networking. I am also hoping to create lasting relationships through the Internship Experience IN West Central Indiana. I have no doubt that this internship will help me achieve my personal and professional goals. Internships have such a vital role in the future of communities and businesses. Internships provide a safe space for students to gain experience before having an official title. Employers also benefit from having interns. They have a chance to get to know a potential employee. This allows them to have a trial period to see how the intern may fit within the company. The process of an internship allows college students to have a full-time job waiting for them after graduation. Internships are a great workforce pipeline tool for employers. What is your favorite thing to do in West Central Indiana? Considering that I am from West Central Indiana and attend college within West Central Indiana, I clearly enjoy the area. My favorite thing to do in the area is to go to a local coffee shop with friends followed by a round of golf! My favorite coffee shop is Gotcha Coffee in Brazil. The employees know my friends and I by name while greeting us with a smile. I played golf in high school. My friends and I still get together to play. I grew up golfing at Forest Park. I love the sun, the trees and seeing everyone you know. What is your favorite restaurant in the region? My favorite restaurant within the area has to be Freddy’s in Brazil. Out of all the Mexican restaurants in the area, I always recommend Freddy’s. It is impossible to walk in and not see people you know. Everyone who eats at Freddy’s comes back every weekend. It is owned by the kindest, hard-working family you could meet. Their chicken, cheese and rice is the best meal on the menu. Their catering is also very popular; everyone loves Freddy’s! What is your dream job? My dream job would allow me to stay close to home and have a family. I would love to be able to work in marketing within West Central Indiana. Marketing is something I am truly passionate about. One of the reasons I enjoy my current internship is the fact that I can use my love for the community while marketing. I am excited to see what the specifics of my future job might look like! If you could bring one thing to West Central Indiana, what would it be? If I could bring one thing to West Central Indiana, it would be something fun for young people to do. To keep more college students in the region after graduation, there is an opportunity for exciting entertainment options such as a Top Golf or Skyzone. It would be a good idea to brainstorm with members of the community and see what would fit best. I am so excited to see how this internship can further my knowledge of marketing. I hope to network with members of the region and make an impact in some way. I am thankful to be working with a great team who has a love for the community. I am looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and learning from successful people! |
